Update: Backlight 6.2.0

Backlight version 6.2.0 is now available, and it's a big one. I'll break down all the new new in sections.

Collapsable section

A new custom web component, "collapsable-section", can be used anywhere in Kookaburra to create collapsed or collapsable content. I had better just show you an example:

Customize collapsable sections in your Kookaburra Page template, and learn more in the Collapsable Section documention.

And yeah, you can shove a carousel in there if you want to.

Carousel

Speaking of carousels, ...

Improved carousels

Carousels are no longer in beta! They've been polished to shine, and equipped with new customization options.

You can also use the new --aspect-ratio and --aspect-ratio-mobile variables to override template settings on-the-fly. See carousel documention.

Improved image comparisons

Numerous improvements have been made to the new image comparison presentation, introduced in 6.1.0. We have appreciated your feedback on this new feature!

You can now customize the divider and handle, use labels in your captions, and compare images of different sizes.

CSS overhaul and spacing improvements

Kookaburra's stylesheets have undergone surgery in this release. And this is maybe a bit dry, but important. Bear with me.

First thing, I've reworked our CSS reset. This is a core change, one that echoes to every aspect of Kookaburra. I have hopefully addressed all the areas that needed attention, but if you find anything amiss, please let me know!

Another notable change, I have made improvements to spacing within page content, paying particular attention to the space between image presentations and their surrounding elements. My goal here is to ensure that essays and blog posts flow better than ever.

The layout and appearance of essay presentation composer buttons has also been overhauled, I think for the better.

Page copy in Kookaburra Album

With improvements made to spacing, I have finally been unblocked to add copy content and placement to Kookaburra, by request.

Kookaburra Album now supports template copy, and you can now position album copy to appear before (above) or after (beneath) the album's image presentation.

Changes regarding single-image HTML pages

You may or may not know, but every image uploaded to an album resides on its own static page, a "single-image HTML page". These are primarily used for permalinks and SEO juice. In Okapi and Pangolin, you could utilize these pages in lieu of the slideshow, but not in Kookaburra.

Because these pages are rarely seen, and somewhat difficult to access, it was silly of me to offer dedicated customization in Kookaburra Page, and so those options have been removed.

Customizations made in "Image Presentation: Single-column" are now applied to single-image HTML pages as well. This includes borders, shadows, and caption styling.

The "Back" button has also been removed from these pages, and it's customization options deleted. Instead, breadcrumbs will now always appear on single-image HTML pages -- even when disabled for the album -- to provide accept to the image's parent album.

In short, the pages continue to exist, but you should no longer have to think about them at all, or spend any time or energy to customize them.

Other improvements and fixes

We have fixed display of 404 content when using Kookaburra Page templates for 404 errors.

You can now hide breadcrumbs in Kookaburra Blog template.

More helper text has been filled in in Kookaburra's designer UI.

Other, smaller improvements abound. Enjoy 6.2.0!
